The Fear of Disappointment

Fear is a feeling of disquiet or apprehension; an emotional response to a perceived threat. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus.
Disappointment is the feeling of dissatisfaction that follows the failure of expectations to manifest. An individual feeling disappointment focuses on the outcome itself; its causes, impact and the degree to which individual decisions are motivated by a desire to avoid it.
Disappointment is one of the primary emotions involved in decision-making. It is pretty common as human beings to have a pretty strong aversion to disappointment. But you can not let the fear of being disappointed keep you from following your passion, your dreams or your goals.
Fear of disappointment is a common concern amongst many individuals in the world and in business, newcomers and seasoned marketers/business people alike. In fact, as an individual ventures into new territories or new business ventures over a long period of time, the fear of disappointment grows. This fear is a natural reaction for a person to experience while attempting to learn how to be successful. After all, who wants to disappoint the ones whose opinion and advice we have grown to not only accept and rely upon, but also whose opinion we now expect and respect. What if we do not live up to the expectations or goals we have set for ourselves? What if we do not get the job done as quickly or in the manner that had been expected of us? What if we set out goals too high to start and are unable to achieve them?
Nearly everybody experiences feelings of disappointment in their lives. It is a normal emotion. To have never experienced the feeling of disappointment is to lead a life of having no expectations of others, and very few people can do that. But some disappointments are small and inconsequential, and are quickly forgotten. Other disappointments are larger, and can impact our ability to have an ongoing relationship or friendship with people or succeed in business. It is these kinds of disappointments you should try to overcome.
How do you overcome the fear of disappointment so you can move forward in your business venture? Ultimately, you want a successful business, but have to focus on what needs to happen to get you there.
(a) First, get clear idea about your business goals. Do you need to study more educational and business resources? Do you need to create a more detailed business plan? Do you need to improve your business skills? Do you need to find a mentor?
(b) Second, create a realistic plan for achieving those goals. After reading all the books and articles, you should have a good idea of what you need to do.
(c) Third, take action on your plan. Start small if you have to, but do something to make progress.
I have also found it is helpful to work with a partner or in a group. It is a good way to get support, stay accountable and stay on track. It is important to not allow fear of disappointment to take us away from realizing our dreams or achieving our goals. So you must not get too attached to a particular outcome, but stay in tune with your enthusiasm and you will ultimately achieve your goal and overcome The Fear of Disappointment!
